Fuludu unhappy over exclusion of league players for Ukraine friendly

Former Super Eagles player and ex-international, Edema Fuludu has expressed his displeasure at the coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot For, once again, leaving out players of the NPFL for next month’s friendly against Ukraine on the 10th.

Only goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa from Heartland FC is the only home-based in the 23 man team called upon to play the fixture.

Speaking with www.brila.net, Fuludu, who was part of the Eagles triumph at the AFCON in Tunisia 1994, stated that the growth of a country’s football is determined not by the performance of the national team, but by the league, and as such, leaving out home-based players from national team engagements will continue to kill the growth of our football.

“The friendly match is okay as part of preparation so for me, it’s not a bad idea but my only issue is that we do not take our league players and give them the opportunity to do well like what the late Stephen Keshi was doing”.

“We must give them the chance because the measure of a country’s football is measured by the league and not the national team performance”.

“So whatever comes out of the league, we introduce to the national team, then the league can be stronger”.
