Ghana President recalls Asamoah Gyan from international Retirement

Ghana’s record goalscorer and former Captain, Asamoah Gyan has made a U-turn on his international retirement, on the behest of Ghana President, Nana Akufo-Addo.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Gyan declared his readiness to return to the Black Stars for the 2019 AFCON, despite announcing his retirement from international duties two days ago citing the policy of Head Coach Kwesi Appiah’s over the captaincy of the team and restricted minutes.

The statement read in part:

A presidential request is one that cannot be disregarded. I have taken the request of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in good faith and will make myself available for selection by coach Kwasi Appiah to help win the AFCON trophy.

Gyan, who captained the Black Stars to the last edition of the competition in Gabon, has made 7 Nations Cup appearance.

He also remains Ghana’s record goalscorer with 51 goals.
