By Johnny Edward: Nigeria’s top-ranked table tennis star Aruna Quadri will feature for the first time at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in Australia when he takes part in the men’s doubles round of 32 on Wednesday, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Quadri, who missed out on the men’s team event due to illness, will partner 43-year-old Segun Toriola in the doubles event against Tomlison Simon and Watson Kane from Jamaica.
Quadri and Toriola are also expected to know their opponents in the men’s singles round of 64 event on Wednesday after they drew bye from the early stages.
Also, the pair of Abiodun Bode and Olajide Omotayo will face the duo of Khawaja Fahad and Rameez Muhammad from Pakistan in another men’s doubles round of 32 clash.
In the men’s TT6-10 singles group 2, Temitope Ogunsanya who lost in three straight sets to Theo Cogil from South Africa will face Barak Mizrachi from Australia in a bid to redeem himself.
While in the women’s TT6-10 singles group 2, Nigeria’s Faith Obazuaye will be targeting her second win at the games when she takes on Vaishnavi Sutar from India.
Obazuaye beat Andrea McDonnell from Australia in straight sets on Tuesday. She won 9-11, 9-11, 6-11.
