Nigeria’s group B opponent Guinea have suffered a major blow as they prepare for this year’s AFCON tournament, with news that their star-man Naby Keita has been ruled out due to an injury.
The midfielder had grown into one of the trusted men for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool but hobbled out for their UEFA Champions League first left semifinal match away to Barcelona on Wednesday night.
Speaking ahead of their clash away to Newcastle, Klopp said Keita suffered a ‘high-grade adductor injury’, which rules him out for at least two months.
“Bad news, High-grade adductor injury. The tendon is ruptured. It will keep him out for at least two months. Bad news for us and for Guinea with the Africa Cup of Nations coming up. Not nice.” he said.
This is a major blow for the West African side, who are placed in Group B alongside giants Nigeria, Madagascar and Burundi.
