Gunmen numbering about three in the late hours of Thursday attacked the residence of a broadcast journalist wale oliyide, in unity estate Ota Ogun state
The motive of the attack is yet unknown as nothing was reportedly taken during the attack, even though the entire house was ransacked.
The owner of the house who is also a broadcast journalist, oliyide, was out of the country at the time of the incident, but his mother and younger brother were at home.
Wale’s mother who narrated her ordeals, said the hoodlums scaled through the fence to gain access to the premises before making their way into the building.
She said that power outage and the noise from the generating sets made it difficult for her to notice the intruders until two fierce-looking young men finally appeared from nowhere and were asking her in pidgin English, “ wey wale… wey wale “ ( where is wale…. where is wale)
She said she told them that wale was not back home. she said one of the hoodlums went into one of the rooms and dragged out wale’s younger brother, apparently thinking it was their target, but she begged them that that was the younger brother and not wale
She said that one of them stood with her and wale’s brother and they were both ordered to face the ground. she said she noticed that another person joined in ransacking the entire house appeared to confirm if wale was truly not at home
She said the incident lasted for about 15 minutes before the gunmen left the house.
Even though the motive of the attack was not known, the mother explained that similar incident had happened in 2015 where his son was attacked, but God saved him, though he sustained some machete cuts
Though wale could not be reached as of the time of filing this report, his Personal Assistant Bisi ogunbowale, said she had contacted her boss about the incident but would not explain further or give the phone number of her boss wale oliyide.
She however, suspected that recent post by her and comments by their organization may have caused the attack on her boss’ house.
