Herdsmen kill pastor, wife, 3 kids, 3 others in Plateau

Benue: Herdsmen displace 200,000 students, teachers, others
No fewer than eight persons, including a pastor with the Church of Christ in Nigeria (COCIN), LCC Abonong, Foron in Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, Rev. Adamu Gyang Wurim, his wife and three children, were on Tuesday night burnt alive by suspected herdsmen.

It was gathered that the church was also burnt down and two other persons were attacked and killed in Dorowa village in the same local government area.

It was gathered that the pastor and his family, who took refuge in their house, were killed when their building was surrounded and set on fire by the suspected herdsmen. Confirming the incident, the lawmaker representing Barkin-Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Istifanus Gyang said:

“The night of Monday, August 28, 2018, witnessed another round of coordinated terror attacks by killer herdsmen on eight villages in Fan and Foron districts of Barkin-Ladi LGA. They are Loh-Fan, Loh-Pwat, Nafan, Sagas, Nzom in Fan, and  Mai Idontaro (Nafok), Bek and Ude, in Foron.

“So far, eight persons were killed in the attacks, including a church pastor. These attacks are coming at a time when the people are yet to recover from the massacre of over 200 persons in the same Barkin-Ladi LGA, with thousands of displaced victims still languishing in IDP camps.

“There has been the sustained malicious destruction and mowing down of crops on farms in many villages aimed at strangulating the communities economically, as farming is their main economic activity. The unfortunate thing is that the perpetrators of these attacks continue to execute their agenda with reckless abandon without appropriate response by the government.

“Until decisive action is taken by the Nigerian government against the killer herdsmen to stop the ethnic cleansing and land grabbing, the presumption is simply that of acquiescence and complicity for which the government shall one day, be held accountable for crimes against humanity, ethnic cleansing and genocide.”

The police public relations officer of the state command, Matthias Terna Tyopev, said he did not have details of the incident, adding that the police commissioner was going to address journalists on the latest killings.
