How we won the mind game on the Pitch against South Africa – Chukwueze

South Africa was supposed to be a tough opponent for Nigeria and possibly were favorites coming off a famous win over tournament favorites and host, Egypt, but team work and discipline helped Nigeria tame Stuart Baxter’s side.

A goal from Samuel Chukwueze in the first-half was cancelled out by Bongani Zungu thanks to VAR -, but with one minute of regular time left, center half William Troost-Ekong struck the death knell.

In his post-match remarks, teen sensation, Chukwueze admits it wasn’t an easy win for the Super Eagles.

“I’m so happy for the win because they are coming off that massive win against the host team; so it wasn’t easy for us to win here. We were disciplined on the pitch and everybody was doing their job.”

Looking ahead to the semi-final fixture, the youngster believes the team will return to the pitch stronger with the AFCON title within sight.

“I know it’s going to be a very tough game but we need to work hard, maybe we’ll start training Tomorrow to face the task ahead of us because we want to win the cup.”
