Hunters found baby girl buried alive in Benue

Some hunters have reportedly found a baby girl allegedly buried alive in Ashav Kusuv community, Buruku Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State.

A resident of the community, who identified himself simply as Terna, said the baby was found last Saturday. As of the time of filing this report, details were still scanty as to who perpetrated the act and why.

It was also not known how the baby survived before she was eventually found and rescued by the hunters. But Terna said mother luck smiled on the baby as the hunters found her and brought her home from the forest.

He said: “Some hunters, on Saturday, found a baby girl and said that they found her buried alive in a forest. The baby is currently being taken care of at Ashav Kusuv community. Though, details on how the baby got to the forest, her parents and age are yet unknown,” he added.

Chairman, Buruku LGA, Iorkyaan Agber, who spoke to newsmen on phone yesterday, confirmed the report and stated that the baby was found in a forest by some hunters.

“It’s true that some hunters found a baby in the forest, but we are investigating to know who went and dropped a little baby in the forest and the reason for doing that,” he said.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benue State Command, SP Catherine Anene, said the report had not got to her.
