Iceland Star Sigurdsson Laments Injury Setback At Everton

Iceland star midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson believes he was showing his best form for Everton before being sidelined with injury.

Everton’s record signing is currently going through rehabilitation after suffering a knee injury in the Toffees’ 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion on 10 March.

He was forced to miss Iceland’s two friendlies against Mexico and Peru (lost 3-0 to Mexico and 3-1 to Peru).

The 28-year-old – who has scored six goals for the Blues this season – revealed he is making “steady progress” in his recovery but admits suffering an injury when in such a rich vein of form is hugely frustrating.

“I was playing in midfield which I really enjoyed,” Sigurdsson told Everton’s official website. “I had a couple of games in there against Burnley and Brighton and felt I did quite well.

“I felt I was getting towards it [my best football]. I felt fit and really good. My confidence was coming back and for the team as well, with two wins in a row, it was a bad time to drop out.

“It is a frustrating time but it is just one of those things and you have to get on with it.”

Sigurdsson should be fit for Iceland who will debut at this year’s FIFA World Cup in Russia.

They are in Group D with Argentina, Nigeria and Croatia.
