Ighalo’s Changchun Yatai relegated as Mikel’s Tianjin Teda survives

Super Eagles forward Odion Ighalo’s Changchun Yatai has relegated to the second division, while Mikel Obi’s Tianjin Teda retain their Chinese super league status on Sunday.

The loss means Changchun Yatai would finish the season on 32 points from 30 matches and will be playing in the second division for the first time in fifteen years.

Ighalo who’s out for five weeks following the hamstring injury he sustained last week scored 21 goals for Yatai this season to finished as second on the scoring chart.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi’s side club Tianjin Teda beat the drop despite suffering a 5-1 defeat to Guangzhou Evergrande.

Tianjin Teda and Changchun Yatai both finished on 32 points but Teda survived due to their head to head advantage over Yatai.
