IGP to visit Lagos over demoralized, unmotivated personnel

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Adamu will on Tuesday visit Lagos for a spots assessment of police formations attacked by hoodlums who hijacked the EndSARS protest.

The visit would also stand as a morale booster to the demoralized personnel as a result of wanton destruction and looting of police stations.
Top on his reason for visiting the city after the #EdnSARS protest, according to sources is to boost the morale of officers and encourage them to put all that happened behind and move forward.
He may also use the opportunity to unbundle future plans to reposition the police system.

The IGP had ordered the immediate mobilization of all police operational assets and resources to bring an end to the wanton violence, killings, looting, and destruction of public and private property, and reclaim the public space from criminal elements masquerading as protesters in some parts of the country.

The IGP gave the order to all Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs), Commissioners of Police (CPs), Heads of Police Operational Units, Squadron and Base Commanders in charge of Zonal/State/FCT Commands, the Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit and the Special Protection Unit, a few days ago.

In addition, CPs/Heads of Police Formations in the various states were also charged to mobilize their men and work in sync with the Command CPs in the areas where they are domiciled, to dominate the public space and ensure peace and safety in the affected areas.

He had urged law-abiding citizens not to panic but rather join forces with the police and other members of the law enforcement community to protect their communities from the criminal elements.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Hakeem Odumosu, yesterday visited some police formations and vehicles that were burnt by the hoodlums during the recent #EndSARS unrest in the State.
The stations and formations visited included Ebutte Ero, Makinde, Layeni, Ilasamaja, defunct SARS Office at Ajegunle, Amukoko, Orile, Defunct Anti Kidnapping Unit, Surulere, Onipanu, Alade, Pen Cinema, Isokoko, Igando, and Ikotun.

The inspection was initiated to embark on on-the-spot assessment and having first-hand information about the burnt stations/formations and vehicles, both official and personal, across the state; and put in place strategies of returning policemen to the affected stations for routine police duties with a view to providing adequate security for lives and property of the people in the communities where the hoodlums wrecked havocs.
The Commissioner of Police reiterated that despite the trauma and challenges the policemen in the command experienced, the police will leave no stone unturned in maintaining law and order and protecting public safety within the state, particularly, during the ember months which is usually characterized by security challenges.

The Commissioner of Police was accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, DCP Mohammed Ali, Area Commanders Area F, ACP Ali Zongo, Area B, ACP Soji Akinbayo, Area C, ACP Fatai Tijani, Area G, ACP Ibrahim Zungura, Area M, Ifaeyin Ohuruzor, Officer In-charge of the State Intelligence Bureau and some affected Divisional Police Officers.

During the tour of inspection, CP Hakeem Odumosu ordered that the Divisional Police Officers and men attached to the burnt stations return back to their duties since the government as well as some concerned communities have provided temporary office accommodations pending the general reconstruction of the burnt stations across the state.

He said,

“wherever there is temporary office accommodation, take over and continue your duties”.

The Police Chief, emphatically, reassured the general public of adequate visibility policing and regular patrols across the length and breadth of Lagos State to curtail any security challenges in the state. Similarly, the Commissioner of Police encouraged members of the public to relate with the police and support them to discharge their duties as expected.
