Iwobi Leads Everton To Victory Over Sheffield Wednesday

Nigerian forward Alex Iwobi helped his team Everton maintained their perfect record in this season’s Carabao Cup, after latest win over Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday.

The Toffees went into the game at the back of their 2-0 shocking home defeat to Sheffield United in the premier league on Saturday and nothing but victory will increase the pressure on manager Marco Silva.

Iwobi was reinstalled back to the starting eleven alongside Sheffield born Dominic Calvert-Lewin who went on to score both goals of the game.

With just six minutes into the encounter, French defender Djibril Sidibe served a lovely ball to the far post and Calvert-Lewin took one touch before lashing home an emphatic finish into the roof of the net.

Everton doubled their lead with another clinical counter three minutes later, Bernard played neat pass into the path of Alex Iwobi whose pinpoint cross was stabbed home by the unmarked Calvert-Lewin.

However, Wednesday wasted further first-half chances on their own, with another Nigerian Dominic Iorfa the biggest culprit.

The youngster headed off target at the back post, before Adam Reach fired straight at Pickford after the ball had fallen for him inside the box.

Iwobi has now recorded a goal and an assist in two Carabao Cup games this season.
