Akwa United arrived their team base in Uyo today after a ten day pre-season training camping in Rivers State.
After wrapping up their preseason camp in Rivers state, Akwa United F.C. new head coach John Obuh says his team still needs a little more time to blend into a formidable squad that can stage a serious title challenge when the league starts.
Akwa United began their pre-season preparations with a 1-0 win over Warri Wolves amongst their 3 wins, then drew against Heartland and CAF Champions League campaigners, Enyimba, in five pre-season friendly matches played so far ahead of the resumption of the 2019/2020 Nigeria Professional Football League season.
Former Golden Eaglets Coach, John Obuh who got appointed as technical adviser of the Uyo based side 2 weeks ago has expressed his satisfaction with the players of Akwa United but has stated that more work will still be done in order to get the team fully prepared for the 2019/2020 NPFL season.
With the new season expected to resume on 22 September, 2019, the former Nigeria U-20 also disclosed the plan of the promise keepers to engage in more quality friendly games to improve understanding and bonding of the players.
“Hopefully, after a few more test games and the lessons we will get from them, we will have a clear picture of our team for the upcoming season.”
Akwa United finished fourth in the NPFL playoff chart of the 18/19 NPFL abridged league season.
