Kevin De Bruyne thought season was over after injury setbacks

Kevin De Bruyne thought his season was over after suffering yet another injury setback im April, but the Belgium star ended it by celebrating the Treble and the man of the match award at Wembley after only playing the last 35 minutes of the FA Cup final.

DeBruyne only made 11 Premier League starts for Manchester City this season, after ligament injuries, first in his right knee then in his left knee and limped out of the win over Tottenham on April 20 with another knee problem.

Kevin De Bruyne described how coming back from these successive knee injuries were “mentally hard” but says he is happy how the season has ended, ‘After the Tottenham injury, but after a couple of days I really wanted to be back with the team to win the title.’

On his award, he added: ‘I didn’t really notice it in the match. I just wanted to come in and make a difference for myself and for the team, and I felt I contributed.

I wanted to end in a good way. It has been a stop-start season for me and it has been difficult at times. I wanted to show the people I am still the same player.’

The Belgian added ‘I just had some bad luck this season. Now everyone knows I am the same and go into the summer in the right way.

I have been playing for 10 or 11 years and I’m not a young player anymore. It has been one of these seasons where I have had some bad luck with two injuries.

Afterwards my body couldn’t really cope with the amount of games and I just have to accept it. In the end I played 32 games and that is still a lot.’
