Lecturer slumps over homosexuality accusation

A senior lecturer at the Federal College of Agriculture (FCA), Ibadan, Oyo State, at the centre of a homosexual and extortion scandal, Mr. Femi Aremu, slumped when the members of a panel investigating the matter visited his house to verify the description of the place as painted by his accuser, an HND male student, Lasisi, the course representative of his class, and another student.

The student had last week exposed Aremu during a radio programme in Ibadan, claiming that he sexually assaulted him and other male students in the department.

After pressure from the students’ union and the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), the college management set up a panel to investigate the allegation of homosexuality and extortion against the lecturer. A senior management staff of FCA told Daily Sun that the panel decided to visit the house of the lecturer to ascertain the description and information provided by the student when he appeared before the panel.

Aremu was said to have slumped soon after the panel inspected his house, which tallied with the description given by the student.

According to the source, Aremu was first rushed to a private hospital but was later referred to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, where he was admitted for two days before he was discharged.

The senior staff disclosed that Lasisi’s parents approached ASUP on the issue with the audio evidence and WhatsApp messages between him and the lecturer. The union referred them to the college management.

Said she: “When the management refused to act because Aremu was seen as one of the foot soldiers of the provost, ASUP wrote a letter asking them to take appropriate action. The college management only took action after the male student and his parents had gone to a radio station, Petals FM, Ibadan, to expose the scandal, prompting the provost to set up the panel.’’

She explained that the provost has not suspended Aremu as required by the rules and regulations governing FCA, Ibadan, and other government establishments, adding that it was “generating ripples among staff and students.’’
