Like the YAK! Aiyegbeni gives Flying Eagles ‘simple’ World Cup Target

Yakubu “The Yak” Aiyegbeni was a fearsome striker in his heyday both at club levels and and for the national team and hoped to leave the young players of the Flying Eagles with some inspiration, when he dropped in to see them in their World Cup camp in Germany.

Aiyegbeni who scored over 190 goals for club and country; and played for the U23 at the 2000 Olympics.

“The Yak” earned 58 caps for Nigeria and had of return 21 goals; the Team’s record third highest, achieving the feat in over a decade of international football.

Apparently an idol to many of the players, who will be making their first entrance at the world stage in Poland, Aiyegbeni said he tried to “encourage them go all out and do the country proud.”

“I have played in the youth sides for Nigeria and I know what it means to these young lads (the Flying Eagles) to represent their country.

“I am happy with what I’ve seen in training and I urge them not to rest on their oars. They have the quality to do the country proud.”
