Lockdown: Ada Anioma political family presents relief materials to Delta community

The people of Ubulu-Uku in Aniocha South Local Government Area (LGA) of Delta State were on Monday presented with food items to alleviate their sufferings during the lockdown ordered by the Federal Government to stop the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

Delta State governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has been commended for locking down the state as soon as the Federal Government gave the order.

However, the order has had adverse effects on the populace, with many families going through hardship and deprivation. In order to alleviate the sufferings of the people of her hometown, Ubulu-Uku, the director-general of Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, Mrs. Amaechi Mrakpor, in conjunction with other Ubulu-Uku political office holders, has brought joy to the community by presenting food Items to residents.

Mrs. Mrakpor, a former House of Representatives member who has been described as an influential politician in the state, was in the company of the Delta State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Engr. Lawrence Ejiofor, Sir Byron Unini, Pastor Jude Ugbah, and other donors. They presented the foodstuff to elders of the community, who would subsequently distribute it to their people.

Mrakpor explained that the Items were not donations from the government or party: “We are not here from the government. The contribution was from 19 people working in government. We contributed the money from our pockets. We contributed N1.6 million to buy bags of rice, beans, groundnut oil, tomatoes, and so on. I am explaining all this so that our people will know the source of the money.

“Some may misconstrue the gesture to be from the government or from one political party. No, we are here as Ubulu-Uku indigenes and not a party or government agency. We want to appeal to our people to manage what has given.”

Presenting the foodstuff to the elders who represented the villages in Ubulu-Uku, Ejiofor stated that the items were donations from Ubulu-Uku political office holders, led by Mrs. Mrakpor (Ada Anioma), to alleviate the sufferings of their people.
The development has been described as laudable by the indigenes of Ubulu-Uku in the diaspora.

A journalist with the Sun Publishing Company, former president of the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN), Comrade Christopher Oji, has described the gesture of his town’s political office holders as laudable.

Comrade Oji said: “I am impressed with the development. What impressed me most was the decent way in which the food items were presented to my people, not the insulting and degrading manner where other individuals giving assistance subject their people to ridicule. I sincerely appreciate the donors, especially Ada Anioma, for remembering my people during this period of trial. I pray that God will keep them.

“I also want to make a passionate appeal to other well-to-do Ubulu-Uku indigenes to emulate the good gesture of our political office holders and help our people with whatever gift they have for them. We don’t have to leave the work for the politicians alone.

“I also appeal to our governor to assist the indigenes of the state with palliatives so that the people will not start dying from hunger. I believe he has something in the pipeline to assist the people.”
