Mikel Obi says he is still a part of the Eagles despite his long absence and has assured he wishes them success in the bid to reach the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Super Eagles captain has not featured for them since the World Cup, he has also been left out of the squad to play in next month’s AFCON qualifier and friendly against South Africa and Uganda respectively.
But in his defence, the 31-year-old has explained why he continues to stay from the Eagles; actually also confirming it has been his decision to stay away.
“I’m still not ready to come back yet (to the Super Eagles). I still have some physical and fitness issues. I wish the team well and will always do,” the player was quoted by Ayo Ibidapo [aoifootball.com].
“My commitment to the national team remains 100%; I still remain a part of the team and will always support the lads.
“The Nations Cup remains our ultimate goal for now and we are just one point away from reaching that target,” said Mikel.
Nigeria face South Africa at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on November 17; the second-leg of their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
Three days later the Eagles will play an international friendly match against the Cranes of Uganda.
