A half-volley off the boot of Mikel Obi finds the back of the net, giving Chelsea a 2-0 lead against Fulham in the premier league, 6 years ago, marked the midfielder’s first league goal ever for the Blues.
Mikel had been at the club seven years prior, but that league goal eluded the Nigerian until what was memorable day.
The Nigerian fed off an assist by current Aston Villa assistant Coach, John Terry, from a Frank Lampard cross.
His celebration, like that of the crowd was unhinged and he would go on to score no more in the league.
A spanning a decade would see no more premier league goal, but he managed six in total from 372 appearances.
On Saturday, exactly six years since that famous night, Chelsea celebrated the Nigerian’s eye-catching goal, with a social media post.
The moment as captured on video was shared on Instagram and Twitter, but captioned thus in the latter:
Seven years of waiting, and then this!
On this day in 2013, @Mikel_John_Obi scored his first @PremierLeague goal!
