Mourinho Not Concerned About City’s Title Party, Raises Pogba’s Price

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has stated that it was not his intention to crash Manchester City’s title celebration as he was more interested in getting the important three points.

City needed to beat United to be confirmed as Premier League champions but threw away a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Two first half goals from Vincent Kompany and Ilkay Gundogan put City 2-0 up before a remarkable turnaround from Paul Pogba and Chris Smalling secured the win.

“My objective here was to get points and not spoil any celebrations. The point is can we improve enough to catch them next season?” Mourinho said in his post-match press conference.

Mourinho analysed how United fought back to inflict a memorable win against their city rivals.

“I was really sad with the first goal and I think it is the third corner they scored against us this season,” he explained.

“Then with the second it was important for the players to keep confident. We moved the ball, more than any team has against Manchester City. We pressed a bit higher and we keep the shape to get a good result.

“I think mathematically we need six points to stay in the top four and this win is part of that tonight.”

He however went on to congratulate City in advance as the league champions.

“Our challenge is to finish second but I want to congratulate City for the title because they are going to win and deservedly. They gave no chance to the others because they had this season of don’t stop winning.”

And on rumours that Pogba wanted to join City in January, the Portuguese said: “If the accusation from his agent is that he wants to go to other clubs, his price has gone up.”
