‘My Katsina United ordeal’ – Obinna Eleje

Having been declared Absent Without Official Leave(AWOL) by Katsina United, Obinna Eleje has resurfaced in his home state of Enugu, South-East Nigeria to explain why he had to abandon his team.
In a chat with  brila.net, Eleje explained that Katsina United failed in its contractual obligations as they owed over 3 months salaries even as he noted further that he officially wrote the team and copied the League Management Company(LMC) and the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF).
“I was shocked to hear that I was declared AWOL because I know I signed a contract but they did not keep their own end of the contract. I can’t be working without any payment for my services. I have responsibilities and this is my only source of income.
FIFA rules on transfers states that once a player is not paid after 2-3 months, he can walk away. I wrote a letter a month before they claimed I went AWOL asking them to pay my 3 months salary. I then filed my termination of contract and perhaps they saw it and they put out the story that I went AWOL”, he stated.
Obinna Eleje is currently in Enugu and has declared himself a free agent now.
