National Sports Festival: Dalung charges athletes to stay off banned substances

Minister of Sports Barrister Solomon Dalung has warned athletes competing at the 19th National Sports Festival in Abuja to shun the use of performance enhancing substances in other not to give the country bad names among the comity of Nations.

7,227 athletes will not only compete for honors at the Abuja games which kick-off on Thursday the 6th of December, but are also hoping be among the best athletes who will represent the country in future International competitions.

The minister, however charged them to stay clean in the pursuit of their dreams and aspirations , he also encouraged the officials to fair in their judgments so that the objectives of the competition can achieved.

“The athletes must compete clean and fair without using performance enhancing substance that can tarnish their image and the image of the country too.

 

” And for the officials they must be very fair and just in the assessment of performances so that at the end of the day the purpose of the Festival is not defeated”, Dalung said.

The Minister also added that two states has shown interest in hosting the 20th and 21st editions of the National Sports Festival afterreceiving the Festival Torch from the Kogi State governmentrepresentatives Abuja on Thursday.

As I speak with you two prospective States have signified solidinterest in hosting the next two editions and we will meet at thenational council of sports to agree on the modalities after thisFestival”, Dalung disclosed.
