NBBF mourns FIBA Secretary General Patrick Baumann’s death

The Engineer Musa Kida led board of  NBBF has joined  Basketball family to mourn the death of FIBA’s Secretary General, Patrick Baumann who passed away on Sunday.

 

The 51-year-old Baumann, who was a former player, coach and referee was said to have died of heart attack at the Youth Games in Buenos Aires, according to the basketball world governing body, on Sunday.

 

However, NBBF board led by, Engineer Musa Kida said the death of Bauman is a loss to the Sport and has left everyone with a shock.

 

“This is a great loss which has left us all in shock. Our condolence to his immediate family, Federation of International Basketball Associations (FIBA), the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and all other professional sporting federations he belonged to.”

 

Baumann joined FIBA as a lawyer in 1994 and was made the Secretary General of the Federation in 2002, after previously serving as deputy. The Swiss was also the president of the global association of international sports federation,  a member of the international Olympic committee and World Anti-doping Agency.

 

Kida, said late Baumann who’s also the Coordinators for Los Angeles 2028 summer Olympics was an enigmatic figure and a role model to many in the world of sports till his death…

 

“His level of dedication to global sports development was unparalleled and dying in the line of duty just cemented his iconic status in global sports management,” Kida concluded.

 

Patrick Baumann survived by his wife and two children.
