Special hunters operating in Shiroro and Munya local government areas of Niger state have launched offensive against terrorists operating in communities across the two LGA’s killing scores of them.
Among those killed by the special hunters was the senior brother of one of the most notorious terrorists commanders operating in the area, popularly known in the area as Alhaji Leyi.
It was gathered that leyi masterminded the abduction of about 69 people from Zagzaga communities, who later regained their freedom after payment of N5million and two motorcycles as ransom.
Also, 13 family members of the Chairman of Shiroro LGA, Mallam Suleiman Chukuba, who were abducted over four weeks ago are still being held by Leyi’s group who have demanded N53 million ransom.
Many of the terrorists also escaped with bullet wounds when the special hunters combed the forests in the area in a special operation that began shortly after the yuletide.
The entire communities in the two LGA’s where the operation is currently ongoing have been without a mobile network in the last week.
However, a source close to the communities told Daily Sun that three of the special hunters are currently being held hostage by the terrorists after capturing them during the exchange of fire.
“The hunters killed a number of these bandits when they (hunters) invaded the bush. It was a serious operation going on there at the moment and that is why there is some relative peace now.
“But unfortunately, the bandits captured three of the special hunters during the encounter, and they are still being held by the bandits”, our source said.
The latest onslaught against the terrorists is coming barely a few days after some armed men invaded the construction site of the 700 Megawatts, Zungeru Hydro Electricity Dam, killing three security guards before abducting two Chinese, working at the site.
Although the state Governor ordered a manhunt for the terrorists with a view to rescuing the Chinese, they are still being held Captive by their abductors
