Nigeria, Libya Clash again next Year… for U-23 AFCON Ticket

Nigeria and Libya will return to the pitch next year to reignite hostilities, when the U-23s battle in the second round of the 2019 CAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

The Libyan U-23s will be out hoping to avenge the humbling the senior team – Mediterranean Knights – suffered at the hands of the Super Eagles in the back to back bashing inflicted on them over two legs in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

In the 2019 CAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament, Nigeria’s Dream team was drawn bye in the first round.

Libya also enjoyed a thorough fare in the first round; they were given walkover, following Gambia’s withdrawal.

The first-leg of the second-round clash between the teams will hold in March 2019 with Libya hosting, the second-leg, also in March will be in Nigeria, but the exact dates and match venues have not been decided.

The winner will progress to the third round; the final qualifying round of the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations, which will serve as the qualifying tournament for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games.

Nigeria won the maiden edition of the U-23 AFCON tournament in Senegal, edging Algeria 2-1 in the final.
