Nigeria Taekwondo Team Turns Focus To Olympic Qualifiers After African Games Success

After winning five medals at the ongoing 12th African games in Rabat, Morocco. Nigeria Taekwondo team have turned attentions to the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualifiers.

The Olympic qualification tournament for the Africa region will take place in Morocco and the Nigerian athletes are expected to face another big test from the Moroccans and also Tunisia led by Africa’s number two ranked Ben Ali Rahma who lost out in the quarter-finals of African games.

 

Speaking after the heroic exploits of the team, Chinazum Nwosu begged the government and corporate sponsors to help the team reach Tokyo Olympic by providing funds .

 

“Hopefully, we will not even take any break. We will get back and resume camping for Olympic qualifiers immediately. This requires resources to attend many preparatory internationals and pay for logistics.”

 

“So, I am asking for investors in my Olympic dream and that of the Nigeria National Team to invest in this journey. We are confident we will deliver and want the government and corporate bodies to be part of this journey,” Nwosu said.

 

Chinazum Nwosu won gold medal for Nigeria in the women’s 53kg category, while Sunday Onofe (-87kg), Okuomose Benjamin +87kg, Elizabeth Anyanacho (-67kg), Vivian Ndu (-62Kg) and Uzoamaka Otuadinma (-73kg) clinched bronze medal each.
