Former Nigeria national team’s Goalkeeper Coach and player, Ike Shorunmu has backed Daniel Akpeyi to replicate his brillant club performance and prove doubters wrong following sidetalks from fans over his choice as the possible Number 1 for the Super Eagles opening 2021 Afcon qualifier group game against Benin Republic.
“Akpeyi has worked on his lapses since the 2019 AFCON semifinal loss to Algeria because he was aware the fans were not happy with his performance and everyone can see he has been playing well with Kazier chiefs in the South African league and if he is chosen to man the post then the coach has ”.
Ike in a chat with brila.net has expressed his confidence in the ability of the Akpeyi and called on fans to forgive and give the Kazier Chief’s goalie the support they would give any member of the Super Eagles team.
“Error is part of the game but the player has to prepare his mind and overcome the tension that comes in the game. I’m always positive and I believe he will do better in the game today. The fans should forgive and forge ahead and give him the support anytie he gets called upon. ”
Ike shorunmu also added that the search for the permanent Number 1 in the Super Eagles will take sometime as it is a process but believes we will eventually get it right.
