Remo Stars Football Club has issued a statement on Wednesday saying they won’t be participating in the NNL play-off slated for this weekend in the city of Aba.
After NNL season was concluded Remo Stars, Kada City, Insurance of Benin and Gombe United finished as group winners, while Kogi United, Delta Force, Shooting Stars, and Real Stars finished first as runner-up in the four groups.
NNL on November 24 had earlier acted on the directive of LMC and NFF saying eight teams joined to the Nigeria Professional Football League for the 2019 season but the LMC and NFF rejected the suggestion while stressing that there is a change of plans and only four teams would be allowed to join the 20 NPFL teams.
The NFF who has previously promised that the eight teams will join the 2019 Nigeria professional football league, last week told the NNL to organize playoff among the eight teams and present four winners four promotion, as eight teams could no longer be admitted into the elite division.
The playoffs is expected to start on Friday in Aba, Remo Stars, who finished as NNL Group B 2 winners, said they won’t honour.
In a press release by the club’s media manager Dimeji Oshode, the made its position known that they won’t be part of the super eight.
“On the 24th of November, decisions were reached by the NNL league board during the Annual General Assembly held at NERA Hotel Jabi, Abuja indicating all eight teams will be promoted to the Nigeria Professional Football League , ” the statement read .
“ Following the earlier decision made , we (Remo Stars ) have now noticed that the Nigeria National League is no longer going by the earlier decision made to promote all eight and we have therefore decided on our part not to honour the scheduled NNL Super 8 in Aba.”
Meanwhile in another development, Gombe United has confirmed they are ready to comply with NFF and LMC by taking part in the super eight.
“We are ever ready to comply with whatever decision taken by the NNL league board as long as is in the interest and betterment of the league.”
“We have worked assiduously to ensure that we’re promoted back to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), hence our resolved to honour the Super 8.”
“After topping Group A1 with an astonishing record, we’re confidence of getting a promotion to the NPFL through normal guidelines approved by the league body.”
“We want to assure the organisers of the playoff that we’re going to participate actively.” According to the press release by the club’s media manager Halilu Mohammed Teli on Wednesday night.
