No pressure on Onyekuru to follow Ikpeba’s footsteps at Monaco – Taribo West

With Super Eagles striker, Henry Onyekuru looking to deliver for new club Monaco, and the club expecting him to deliver like former Nigeria international, Victor Ikpeba who also played for the club, former Eagles defender and ex-international, Pastor Taribo West says it won’t put any pressure on Onyekuru to deliver this season.

After joining Everton in 2017, Henry Onyekuru spent two years on loan at Anderlecht and Galatasaray. Now, it seems the Nigerian’s loan days are over, as he has just joined French club, AS Monaco on a five-year deal.

Speaking to www.brila.net, Taribo also added that Ikpeba was such a clinical striker, as he also played for Auxerre during that period, believing that Onyekuru should use such to build his confidence.

“If he is a wise boy, that should give him the courage, the tenacity, and strength to make sure he comes to the ranking of Ikpeba”.

“I played in Auxerre and saw Ikpeba do incredible things, saw him score fantastic goals so that should not put him under any pressure, but it should give him the confidence and encouragement to make sure he comes to the ranking of Victor Ikpeba”.

Following his performance in Turkey, where he helped Galatasaray win the Süper Lig and the Turkish Cup, we were expecting Onyekuru to move back to Everton and start making his mark in the Premier League. However, he couldn’t secure a work permit in the UK.
