No Team No Worries! FIBA selects Nigerian Referee for World Cup duties

Nigeria will not compete at the 2019 FIBA U19 (Men’s) World Cup in Greece, but the country will have its presence at the tournament this June.

Thanks to his selection by Basketball’s Apex body, FIBA, Nigerian referee Kingsley Ojeaburu has been nominated to officiate at the World Cup in Greece, with the sole allocated license spot to the NBBF.

 

Ojeaburu, a respected figure in the Sport on the continent, himself announced via social media, the nomination.

 

I have been nominated for the world U19 in Greece and the Men’s world cup in China, this is the Lords doing and I give him all the praise : He posted on Facebook on Saturday.

A FIBA Referee’s Black license holder, Ojeaburu has officiated at several tournaments including the 2019 FIBA World Cup qualifiers.

 

Come June, 16 teams across 5 continents will jostle for the top spot at the U19 World Cup in Greece and Africa will be represented by Mali and Senegal; as the winner and runner up during the 2018 FIBA Under-18 African Championship.
