Not in my contract to invite home-based players into Super Eagles – Rohr

Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has maintained Nigeria’s best players are based in Europe and it would be difficult for local-based players to break into his squad.

Rohr has been criticized for failing to give the players who are plying their trade in the Nigerian professional football league to fight for a place in his team.

However, the Nigeria Football Federation revealed that the Franco-German manager has been mandated to pay attention to the home-based in order to pick the best to join the Super.

Rohr has now revealed without mincing words, that the foreign-based players have a better chance than their Nigeria based counterparts.

“You want me to invite locally-based players, It’s always not possible. If you want to come into this team now, you have to be very strong. We have players from Europe, players abroad from Nigerian father or mother or both, they are so strong, so it’s very difficult for local players to come into the team”. He told Channels Sports.

Rohr also dismissed claims that it now part of his contract to bring some home-based players into the Super Eagles main team.

“It’s not a part of my contract to take players who are not so good as other ones. I can choose my players myself. It’s the most important. Nobody can tell me to pick this one or this one. I can take the best players and I don’t do it alone, I have a team (technical crew). We speak about the games of the weekend, so we have to take the best ones regardless of where they are coming from” he said.

Rohr signed a contract extension that will keep him with the Super Eagles until 2022.
