Obisia bewails state of boxing in Nigeria

Former national boxing coach Obisia Nwamkpa has expressed grave concern on the current state of boxing in Nigeria.

The retired coach bewails the spate of decline in Nigerian boxing on the part of the boxers, coaches and administration alike after the Nigeria Boxing Federation adduced the lack of fund and dearth of quality boxers as reasons to cancel participation at the Africa boxing Olympic qualifiers which begins today in Senegal.
Obisia speaking in a chat with Cornerstonenewsng.comsaid claims that there are no funds is an indictment on the Nigeria boxing Federation and backed the other claim on the decline in the quality of boxers that can truly be seen as medal hopefuls at the games beyond just mere qualifying and attending the games.
“I agree that because that is the only excuse they can give but if they tell us that there is no fund it means they are not responsible themselves.
“They should not give us an excuse that there is no fund because the association supposed to be creditworthy.
“The NOC themselves supposed to be creditworthy so they cannot say there is no fund. I agree with that excuse that there is no one quality boxer.”
