Ola Aina boost Torino’s Europa League progress

Ola Aina returned to action with Torino on Thursday in the second-leg Europa League third round qualifying match against Belorussian side Shakhtyor Soligorsk.

Aina came off the bench, just past the hour mark, in his first appearance in the qualifiers having been on international duty with Nigeria.

He was rested for the first-leg, but the Nigerian defender was passed fit for yesterday’s game; coming off the bench to replace Cristian Ansaldi.

Unfortunately, the Serie A side couldn’t complete a perfect two in two over Soligorsk, as the hosts snatched a late equalizer from the penalty spot to finish the game 1-1.

Torino smashed the Belarus club side 5-0 in the first leg at the Stadio Olimpico in Turin.

In his post-match presser Mazzarri said, “Today we wanted to make a better match than we did. We realized that the opponent was actually much stronger than the result had led to think.

“I had made it clear to my players that they would have believed it and attacked much more than the Olimpico match.

“That said, anyone who has played football knows that when you have such a wide advantage as we did it is never easy to get off with the right adrenaline, the one we always play with.”

Il Toro next face Wolverhampton in the Play-off round of the competition.
