Overconfidence cost us against Abia Warriors, Says Okagbue

FC Ifeanyiubah coach, Uche Okagbue has hinted that his side paid the price for overconfidence in their home defeat to rivals Abia Warriors on Sunday.

FC Ifeayin Ubah had received praise all over the country for their impressive start to the new season and how they managed to stay unbeaten despite having the youngster team in the league prior to the disappointing 1-2 home loss to Henry Makinwa’s Abia Warriors.

However, the gaffer said Sunday’s loss has reminded the team that they are invincible and will help the young lads to be modest in victory.

“They played very well in the first half and we created a lot of chances. But in the second half, the boys lost the game because they were overconfident. We even had a penalty which would have given us the opportunity to level up, still, we lost,” he said

The tactician also couldn’t hold back his satisfaction from the team, as he believes that it wasn’t easy for a team to take the league by storm the way they have done.

“You see,  it’s not easy to have a crop of young players like this playing into the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL)  for the first time. They have been trying and we lost today basically because of hard luck. We will go back to camp and work on other strategies to make sure we avoid such defeats.”

FCIU missed another chance of gaining victory over Abia Warriors, a side they have beaten since the club gained promotion to the elite division, they have met times with the Umuahia-based side winning two, and recording six draws.

The Anambra Warriors remain third on the log with 11 points from six games. The Nnewi-based side will face Gombe United in their next match.
