 Pastor nabbed for operating fake WAEC center in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has cracked a fake West Africa Examination Council ( WAEC ) center in Igbogbo area of Ikorodu area of the state.

The pastor arrested for allegedly operating a fake WAEC centre.

The Pastor operating the center, Adeniyi Joshua of El-Supreme Church has been arrested.

Recovered from the pastor are; WAEC question papers and answer sheets suspected to be forged.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, who paraded the suspect yesterday before newsmen at the command Headquarters, Ikeja, said that the case was actually reported to the police by a senior staff of WAEC, Ogba.The Senior staff informed the police of the existence of the fake WAEC center at El-Supreme private school, number 3, Oseni Adekogbe street, Igbogbo.

Edgal said that upon receipt of the complaint, a team of policemen attached to Area G command, Ogba, were mobilized to the address.

He said that one Pastor Adeniyi Joshua, operator of the fake WAEC center was arrested.

He said: “Recovered from him are WAEC question papers and answer sheets suspected to have been forged .”

Edgal also said that four university students were tracked and arrested in Edo, Osun and Ondo states for the offense of examination malpractices.

He said that they  are: Samuel Kayode, ‘28, Adebayo Ifeoluwa, 17, Alayande Ahmed, ’ 16 and  Episode Festus,  20 years

Edgal revealed that some other suspects were tracked to Ghana. He said that those who were trailed to Ghana are  Samuel Kayode, 28, a physics and mathematics teacher in two of the private schools where examination malpractices were done in Ondo State. 

According to the CP, the principal suspect was linked with those who provided him prepared answers to the leaked 2018 examination questions. Adding that the suspect created a WhatsApp group called ‘WAEC VIP’ where he shared and sold leaked (expo) questions and answers on request.

“The second suspect is Adebayo Ifeoluwa, 17, a student at Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State. He also created a WhatsApp group of his own called ‘MCC’ where he shared leaked (expo) questions and answers. While  Elusode Festus, 20,  an iron-bender apprentice who resides in Ekpoma, Edo State, created two WhatsApp groups named ‘WAEC Home of Expo’ and WAEC VIP’ where he shared questions and answers to students. Alayande Ahmed, 16, who is undergoing training on repairs of damaged mobile phones, was also linked to the crime. He got expo from other groups  and shared with students.” 

He explained that the command discovered that the question papers given by the syndicates are a word for word with the ones provided by WAEC for the candidates.

According to him, the four suspects confessed and admitted to having committed the crime. Evidence of this was established through their mobile phones. 

“Effort is in progress to get the owners of the websites to find out how the question papers got out of WAEC office. 

” The police authority wishes to advise parents, guardians, and tutors to guide and monitor their wards not to engage in examination malpractices, but rather, encourage them to face their studies since there is no short way to success. 

“Also, it is important for the concerned examination bodies to look into this devastating development and take necessary corrective measures to prevent such leakage in future.”
