Police anti bomb experts search for fleeing terrorists in Lagos and Ogun states

Security Tips

Bomb experts from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Command have been deployed to comb major areas in Lagos and Ogun in search of fleeing members of the dreaded Boko Haram group.

This is to forestall any attack by members of the gang in the states. Suspected members of the sect are presently fleeing the North East because of the ongoing war against terrorism by the military.

Commissioner of Police EOD, Gabriel Ayodele Oguntuase, made this disclosure during his maiden press briefing at his office in Ikeja, Lagos.

Oguntuase, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) said that the officers have been fully briefed on what to do while on the field.

According to him, the deployment was to checkmate the activities of social miscreants, bearing in mind that the fight against insurgency and other criminal vices in the country could only be won through individual and collective efforts.

He urged officers and men of the command to ensure proper and effective fortification of explosives magazines and storage facilities within their respective domains.

He noted that his deployment to head the command came at a time when all security forces in the country are working round the clock to rid the country of terrorist/insurgents from their hideouts.

He said that as a field soldiers EOD officers would not relent in their efforts to ensure that normalcy returns to trouble areas.

“It is gratifying to note that the war against criminals and criminality in our country has achieved appreciable level of successes even though we could still do more by putting in more effort to wipe out the menace of insurgency/militants who are always devising new means to beat us and other security agents in carrying out their nefarious activities.

“The professional architecture of the EOD operations has been clearly studied with the view to repositioning the Command for effective service delivery.

“My posting to EOD Command coupled with my proper understanding of the terrain will afford me the opportunity to build and improve upon both human and material resources already put in place by my predecessors. To ensure quality service delivery on our primary schedule of duty, in line with the Force directives under the able leadership of IGP Ibrahim K. Idris hinges on policing that focuses on the people and service oriented in line with global best practices and problem-solving approach.

“To work at improving a chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive section of the EOD in the designated regions across the country.Teppo work on the regular capacity building of personnel through local training and retraining of our personnel in conjunction with our international partners.

“With regards to discipline, we shall ensure that officers and men are disciplined with proper supervision of their subordinates and personnel in the field and also eschew anything that may bring the dignity and credibility of EOD to disrepute.

“To discourage all forms of illegal acts by officers and men and promote the Explosives Acts 1964 and regulations of 1967 with NNRA Acts in line with global best practices. And to emplace the right structure of operations in the Command that is capable of improving our operational ability.”
