Undercover operatives have arrested one Sikiru Tanimowo for allegedly attempting to abduct a four-year-old boy in the Okokomaiko area of Lagos.
The operatives also rescued the victim, Abu Yusuf, from his would-be abductor.
The suspect was said to have lured the victim from his parents’ house at AJangbadi area of the state and was taking the boy to an unknown location when he was intercepted by the police.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police Imohimi Edgal, who confirmed the report, said that the incident occurred on January 6.
Edgal said that at around 9.55pm, information was received from a credible source that a man was seen moving around Otun Market Square in a suspicious manner, holding a little boy.
He said that, based on the information, operatives of the command attached to Okokomaiko Division moved swiftly to the location and arrested the suspect, Tanimowo, 37.
“The suspect later led detectives to the location where he picked the child, thus, the police were able to locate his parents who said that they have been looking for the child and have never met the suspect before.
“The case is currently under investigation with a view to prosecuting the suspect in court. Meanwhile, the child has been reunited with his parents,” he said.
