Ebonyi State Police Command, yesterday, disclosed that it has impounded over 167 motorcycles from traffic law offenders in the state.

Also, the command said it has made over N600,000 for the state Government from defaulters of the ban on motorcycle operation in Abakaliki at night.

The Government had banned the operation of motorcycles beyond 7 pm except those on essential duties in designated parts of the state capital.

The ban was aimed at curbing crimes in the state but had been flouted by the operators leading to the massive confiscation of motorcycles of the offenders by the police.

State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Loveth Odah, told newsmen that over N600,000 had been raked in for the state Government from defaulters, explaining that a bike could only be released to its owner on payment of N8,500 fine as stipulated by law.

She warned that the command would not hesitate to deal with anyone disobeying the ban on the operation of the motorcycle at night in the state. Meanwhile, the Government has warned residents of the state to stay away from trouble, vowing to deal decisively with anyone found fomenting trouble in the state. Commissioner for Internal Security and Border Peace, Chief Stanley Emegha who gave the warning while speaking with newsmen said:

“People should stay away from trouble because we will not leave you. If you know trouble will lead you into a problem, please stay away because we will not leave you unpunished. If you then try it, we will go all out against you and there is no way you will escape it because we are more in number and the laws of the land are against what you are doing”.
