The gang had at the early hours of the day , hijacked a passenger boat heading to Burutu from Warri and robbed the passengers who were mostly trader of their goods, money and other personal belongings.
The gang was on another mission of ambushing another passenger boat along the same axis unknown to them that they were armed mobile policemen attached to the Delta state government Waterways security on surveillance.
It was gathered that the robbery gang had attempted to takeover the boat when the police team opened fire on them and they sustained gun shot injuries.
The injured hoodlums ,reportedly died on the way to the Central Hospital i,Warri.
The police recovered two locally made guns and five live cartridges.
Others items recovered included ;One 75HP Yahmaha Engine and one 75HP Engine speed boat ,machetes, travellers’ bags containing personal effects belonging to victims from previous operations of the gang.
Area Commander Burutu police headquarters, ACP Adepegba Kolawole, said that with the development ,the Burutu waterways will now enjoy relative peace as the gang had been identified as one of the dreaded gang in the area.
