Police nab 6 notorious  robbers

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested six suspected members of a notorious gang of armed robbers that have been terrorising people on College Road, Ogba , Fagba, Abbattoir, and Agege areas the state.

The suspects were arrested by the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad ( RRS) of the Command on Valentine’s day at around 9 p.m at College Road, Ifako – Ijaiye area after the gang robbed some passersby of their valuables .

The suspects, Lekan Akinyemi 23, Chimeze Ofulie 18, Babangida Abdullahi ,22, Abubakar Umaru 30, Samuel Oyinloye 24, Timileyin Oladipupo 27 and Habeeb Olayinka have allegedly confessed to the crime .

The suspects said they came from different parts of the country but reside in Abattoir and Agege .

The suspects had on Thursday, robbed Agafe Augustine after he alighted from a taxi on College Road .Amongst the items collected from him by the gang were; an android phone, N14,000 and a bag.

According to Agafe : “I could not resist while they were robbing me because they were many and were armed with dangerous weapons. After they attacked me , I trailed them to an open place where I raised the alarm. It while i was shouting for help that RRS operatives on patrol came to my rescue and arrested some of them”.

“ They equally robbed other victims amongst whom were a lady in company with her boyfriend. They dispossessed them of their phones and stabbed her boyfriend who refused to let go of his mobile phone after parting with his wallet”.

In his confessional statement , one of the suspects said they specialised in robbing passersby of their phones , bags, jewelry and other personal effects .

Investigation by the police revealed that one of the suspects, Timileyin Oladipupo ,alias , ‘Timi Yahoo’, specialised in working on SIM cards of the stolen phones to determine which ones were internet banking enabled to facilitate the gang access to transferring money from victims’ accounts to theirs.

The suspect said: “I have worked on so many SIM cards given to me by Lekan and other groups in Agege, Abbatior, and other places. What used do was to further increase our gain from the robbery by transferring victim’s money from their bank accounts to ours. I used some software to determine how much is lodged in our victim’s accounts and we also share the proceeds .

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police Mu’azu Zubairu ordered the suspects to transferred to the State Anti Robbery Squad ( SARS) for a thorough investigation.
