Police open fire on IPOB in Ebonyi It is a lie -Police

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has alleged that a detachment of joint-security team opened fire on members at Ozibo in Ebonyi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, last Sunday. No life was lost, Daily Sun gathered that several members of the pro-Biafra group were injured following the fracas that ensued when the security operatives stormed the Oguzoronweya Primary School, where the group was inaugurating its chapter. IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu who broke the news via his twitter handle shortly after it happened, Said:

” A combined team of security operatives invaded the venue of IPOB gathering in Ebonyi and opened fire on innocent citizens. Early reports indicate many were seriously injured with some in critical condition.”

An IPOB member who was at the scene told Daily Sun, yesterday, that three of their members were seriously wounded by gunshots; with two of them hit by live bullets in the hands while the other was hit in the leg. The Biafra campaigner said that the police shot directly at their members; arrested an undisclosed number of persons after destroying their tricycles, motorcycles; canopies and even prepared food and drinks meant for the inauguration.

He added that security men punctured the four tires of a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), belonging to Mr. Orogwu; the group’s legal adviser. Ebonyi State Police public relations officer, DSP Loveth Odah, dismissed the IPOB’s claim that police opened fire on them, instead said that it was a pro-Biafra group that allegedly attacked the police with a gun and other dangerous objects. She said that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the Kpirikpiri division escaped death when the IPOB members allegedly attacked the police.

“The members of IPOB assembled unlawfully on October 27, at Oguzoronweya Primary School by 2:50 pm. “On receiving the information, the men of Operation Puff Adder in active collaboration with other security agencies who were carrying out Operation Show Force initiated by the Commissioner of Police went there.

“While they were at Ebonyi LGA, they sighted the members of IPOB where they assembled unlawfully. We know them not to be carrying guns. “But yesterday (Sunday) was very different. When police got to the area, to their greatest surprise, Mr. John John, the Kpirikpiri DPO, if not that he was fully kitted, would have been killed.

“But now you would have heard that a policeman in the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) was killed. They started shooting them and throwing heavy stones. “He had bruises all over his body. As if that was not enough, they started shooting. We have recovered a locally made gun from them. But police, professionally, never shot at them,”

Odah stated.

Odah said that about six members of IPOB were arrested. A lawyer whom she said was with the IPOB members alongside his fiancee were s also arrested. Items including a locally-made gun, expended bullet, flags, motorcycles, and others were equally recovered from them
