Police pick vigilantes aiding suspected cultists during initiation in Delta

Delta State Police Command has arrested some members of a vigilance group for aiding and keeping watch for a cult group during initiation rite at a bush in Ubulu-Unor, Aniocha-South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The 40 suspected cultists were also arrested.
Also in the police net are suspected kidnappers who stormed their victim’s home and picked him in presence of his girlfriend at the Warri area of the State.

Giving a vivid account on how the arrests were made, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe, in a statement, explained that: On April 23, at about 8:30 pm credible information and intelligence gathered over a period of time by the Delta State police command Anti-cult unit (SACU) revealed that Aye confraternities would be carrying out initiation at Ubulu-Unor bush in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State. The commander SACU, SP Christopher Igbaji, immediately mobilized SACU operatives to the scene and arrested 40 male suspected cultists.

“When the Police got to the venue of the initiation, some armed men who claimed to be of Ubulu-Unor Vigilante were seen keeping watch and aiding the said cultists to carry their initiation, they were also arrested. Exhibits recovered include a Revolver pistol with eleven live ammunition, one locally made single barrel gun, one pump action, eight vehicles, and one Mitsubishi pickup with the inscription of Ubulu-Unor vigilante. The case is under investigation”.

In another development, The PPRO said that: “On April 24, at about 10 am, a complaint was received by the DPO ‘A’ Division Warri, CSP T.Y. Mahmud, that on the previous day, at 8 pm, that while the complainant was with her boyfriend, Peter Okologo, ‘ 26, resident of Nigercat Ekpan in Uvwei LGA, Ejiro John, 25, of Ogbori Community in Warri led a group of armed men, some of them were alleged to be on military uniforms with guns and other weapons. They stormed their house and took away her boyfriend, Peter Okologo, after firing gunshots, took him to an unknown destination.

” On the strength of the report, the DPO ‘A’ Division Warri CSP T.Y Mahmud,mobilized Rapid Response Team from the Division and swung into action. They arrested another suspect, Kingsley Omagbemi, 25. Both of them were the ones who led the kidnappers to the victim’s house where he was kidnapped. Policemen visited the scene and recovered three empty shells. After thorough investigation and interrogation, the two suspects led the police team to Sapele, where the DPO Sapele Division CSP Harrison Nwabuisi, also mobilized men from Sapele Division and joined forces with men of ‘A’ Division Warri, where David Isaac Mojo, 32, of no 12 Akintola street Sapele, was arrested at the kidnapper’s den. They said David Isaac Mojo, has already demanded the sum of N1 million as ransom, he was arrested as he came out to collect the said ransom, while one Alason, surname unknown escape with a black Toyota Camry . The kidnapped victim was rescued by the police. The suspects are in custody while the investigation is in progress with a view to arresting the other fleeing members of the gang.

“The commissioner of police has urged all officers and men in the state to keep the tempo because if this tempo can be sustained, Delta state will definitely be crime-free which is the mandate given to him by the inspector-General of police Mr. Usman Alkali Baba”.

According to Edafe, the Command under the watch of CP Ari Muhammed Ali has recorded another victory over Kidnappers in the state, due to the relentless effort of the police to continuously go after these criminals and also to see that Delta state become uncomfortable for them.
