Rohr says Eagles were unfortunate in defeat against Algeria

Coach of Nigeria’s senior national team Super Eagles Gernot Rohr has stated that his Eagles team were unfortunate in Sunday’s 2-1 semifinal AFCON defeat against the Desert Foxes of Algeria which ended Nigeria’s quest for the 2019 Africa cup of Nations title.

Rohr speaking after the defeat said in the post-match press conference captured by Cornerstonenewsng.comthat the Super Eagles team were undone by been too early in concluding that the game will drag beyond the normal time only to concede a late free-kick towards the edge of the 18-yard box.
“Unfortunately we conceded the goal towards the last minute, I think my players wanted to go to extra time believing that perhaps Algeria will be tired and we could win this game at the end of extra time.
It was a wonderful match, we lost it and we are not happy. Congratulations to the Algeria players. They were the better team in the first half. “
Nigeria’s Super Eagles will now settle for a third-place playoff match against Tunisia.
