Luka Modric (Real Madrid and Croatia)

Modric is a great passer of the ball and possesses the vision to find his forwards with well-timed through balls.

The Croatia captain has been the cog in the wheel for the Vatreni and Real Madrid. He was instrumental in the Los Blancos winning the UEFA Champions League twice in four years.

The  32-year-old midfielder has been to two FIFA World Cups and so far this season he has scored two goals, six assists in 36 appearances for Real Madrid while creating plenty of scoring opportunities.

Lionel Messi (Barcelona and Argentina)

Lionel Messi remains the biggest threat to the Super Eagles getting at least a win at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Messi has not lost a game to Nigeria at any level of football.

He has scored 39 goals and provided 16 assists so far in 47 games for Barcelona this season.

Ever Banega (Sevilla and Argentina)

Ever Banega is a midfielder that has eyes for crisp and defence-splitting passes.

He alongside Angel Di Maria will be looked upon to get the La Albiceleste going at the 2018 Russia World Cup in Russia.

He has scored four goals and provided five assist in 44 games for Sevilla this season.​

Mateo Kovacic (Real Madrid, Croatia)

Despite having just one goal and four assists for Real Madrid this season to his name, Mateo Kovacic has had a hand in 21 goals scored by Real Madrid this season. His ability to launch attacks has seen him being compared with his compatriot Luka Modric who is ten years older than him.

The midfielder has 94% pass accuracy for Real Madrid this season, playing a key role off the bench as the side chase another UEFA Champions League title.

Albert Gudmundsson (Iceland, PSV Eindhoven)

Gudmundsson has been in sparkling form in the Netherlands this season with nine goals and seven assists for PSV Eindhoven’s second team in the second division while also making appearances in the top flight.

The 20-year-old who has scored three goals for Iceland at international level can play in any position in attack and will be looking to make a bigger name for himself in the World Cup 2018.

Blessed with abundant pace and skill, Gudmundsson is one of the players Iceland will be banking on the make history at the World Cup in Russia.
