Siasia Listed For Cameroon Job Along With Rigobert Song, Troussier, Mathaus

By Adeboye Amosu:                          Former Super Eagles head coach, Samson Siasia’s name is in the list of 77 coaches pencilled down for the Cameroon national team, the Indomitable Lions coaching job, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The Federation of Cameroon Football (FECAFOOT), is in the hunt for a new coach after Belgian gaffer Hugo Broos left the post following the failure of the Indomitable Lions to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

According to a report on Cameroon-info.net, Siasia will contend with the likes of former Indomitable Lions captain, Rigobert  Song; one-time  Super Eagles coach Philippe Troussier, and ex- France coach ,   Raymond Domenech for one of the top national football team coaching jobs in Africa.

Other notable names on the list are former Germany captain, Lothar  Mathaus, and former handler of the side Pierre Lechantre.

“We have already started work. There are  criteria to be respected and the files will be sifted two or three times  before considering the shortlist,” Djomo Kelvin, head of the committee saddled with the responsibility of finding the new coach told Cameroon-info.net.

“In this kind of work, you have to avoid doing things in a hurry , to be reassured that the coaches whose names are in the files are really interested because we realized that there are some files that have been filed by agents while the coach himself is not aware. It is therefore a question of carefully examining each files.”

Siasia, a former Nigeria  international enjoyed remarkable success with Nigeria U-20 and U-23 teams.

The 50-year old  led the Nigeria’s U-20 side, the Flying Eagles to a second place finish  at the 2005 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

He twice managed the U-23 team, leading the side to claim silver at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and bronze at the 2016 edition in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The former striker was appointed Super Eagles head coach on November 4 2010 replacing Swedish coach Lars Lagerback, but was sacked on October 2011 after failing to qualify for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations with the Super Eagles. He was replaced by the late Stephen Keshi.

Siasia handled the Super Eagles in an interim basis following the resignation of his former international teammate Sunday Oliseh in February 2016.
