Sunshine stars hand Remo Stars another league defeat

Fuad Ekelojuoti’s brace was enough to earn  Sunshine Stars FC  their first home win of the season, as they edged visiting Remo Stars  2-1 over in a matchday six southwest derby.

 

Bright Akpojuvwevwo brought Remo Stars back into the game with a fifth minutes equalizer after Fuad Ekelojuoti has given Kabir Dogo’s Sunshine the lead with just two minutes into the game.

 

Sunshine Stars almost went back in front again through Alaba Adeniyi, but Remo Stars defender made a goal-line clearance after misjudged Emmanuel Fabiyi misjudged a cross and the first half ended with nothing to separate both sides.

 

Sunshine Stars however up the tempo of the game at the start of the second half and they were rewarded with the winner after Fuad Ekelojuoti bundled home a free kick from Alaba Adeniyi which was parried into a dangerous area by Emmanuel Fabiyi.

 

The Akure Gunners could have added increased their tally, but the crossbar came to the rescue of Kennedy Boboye’s side from Daniel Ibe drive, Jide Fatokun, and Dayo Ojo also blazed over the bar from close range for Sunshine.

 

However, Kabiru Dogo had goalkeeper David Ariyo to thank as he made two point-blank saves to denied Remo Stars a point and hand Kennedy Boboye his first defeat to his former side.

 

At the post-match presser, Coach Kayode Julius who spoke to journalists on behalf of Kabiru Dogo thanked the Club’s fans for their support so far.

 

“We played against a team led by our former coach, so it was a bit difficult for us but I must commend the players for their hard work and the fans as well for being there from start to finish”

 

Reno Stars Technical Adviser Kennedy Boboye on his part hailed his former side while also applauded the officiating.

 

“I think Sunshine Stars won because they showed more hunger. They came out as they needed it and got it. Good enough, the officiating was fair as well so it’s up to me to strengthen my team as soon as possible”.

 

Sunshine Stars are now second in group A with eight points from four matches and next Niger Tornadoes at in Minna on Thursday.
