Rampaging cultists that have been terrorising Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, Wednesday night invaded National Youth Service Corps members’ lodge along Swali Road and shot dead two corps members.
According to investigations, the cultists numbering about six stormed the lodge and opened fire, killing one of the corp members, Popoola Oluwatobi Olamide, who is a graduate of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State.

The other colleague was said to have struggled with the attackers and he was shot several times but did not die on the spot. He was, however, taken to the hospital where he gave up the ghost.
The hoodlums also shot another corps member, Dada who they left in the pools of his own blood thinking that he was dead .after they had shot him thinking that he was dead. He was lucky to have survived the gunshot wound.
The corp members were attached to a private secondary school, Victory Group of School, close to their lodge.

A resident informed that the cultists specifically came for the corps members as they went straight to their lodge :
“We heard a gunshot from the direction of the corps members’ room. One of the attacked corps members was heard shouting ‘Jesus” repeatedly and asking what was their crime. Another shot sounded and he was silent. We heard another gunshot and we knew the cultists really prepared for the corp members.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olusola David paid a visit to the State Secretariat of the NYSC where he met with the State Director of NYSC , Mrs. Lotto Bola.
