National team selection based on ranking has never been a written rule and shouldn’t become one in Tennis. With a couple of international events coming up in 2019, selection of players should remain strictly on the basis of performance rather than ranking, tennis star Patience Onebamhoin insists.
In a chat with brila.net, Onebamhoin argued that some of the best players fall outside the top 10 ranking, and if Nigeria must be given the best representation at tournaments, the Nigeria Tennis Federation technical directors must give consideration to more than just ranking in the case selecting players.
