The challenges of an underestimated player with goals – I’ll never settle for less, says Mario Lemina

Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina has been one of the most under-appreciated prospects in the footballing world recently, Lemina can play in every position on the pitch apart from goalkeeper and striker.

Lemina started his career at Lorient primarily playing as a winger and a wing-back, but never really found his feet until he moved to Marseille.

In his first season with Les Olympiens, he found great success playing as a centre-back, a right-back, and an attacking midfielder. Although he currently plies his trade as a deep-lying midfielder.

Throughout his youth career and the beginnings of his professional career, Lemina has been known to lose his temper incredibly quickly.

After breaking into the first team of Juventus at the age of 21, many believed that an illustrious career was beginning, but after a crisis of confidence and many disciplinary issues, he seemed a long way from reaching his potential.

Something he fixed since signing for Southampton, he consistently provides great performance after great performance but has not reached the heights many thought he would. But he is relentless and has big dreams of playing in a big team and in the champions league.

Lemina said ‘It’s a bonus. If I have the opportunity to play this season, why not, but I’m really trying to regain consistency, become an important player in a team with high goals. I need to play. That’s really my priority. I want to show everyone what I can do”
