Thunder, at the weekend, killed three persons at Ngodo community in Afikpo, Afikpo North local government area of Ebonyi state.

It was gathered that the tragic incident occurred at about 3 pm, on Friday, after a downpour that lasted for some hours.

A resident of Afikpo, Iheukwumere Okogwu, who confirmed the incident to journalists, yesterday, in Abakaliki, disclosed that one of the deceased hailed from Cross River state and had lived in the area for years.

He said: “Yes, it is true that thunder killed three persons in our place. There was heavy rainfall that day, which was accompanied by serious thunder.

“The thunder killed the three persons at a spot and it occurred in two different places. It killed two in the Ngodo community and another person in another place. One of those who were killed is from Cross River state, who settled in Afikpo.”

He described the tragedy as unfortunate and the first of its kind in the area.

Another person, Eze Christian, told our Correspondent that the downpour which, he said, started at about 10 am on that fateful day, was so serious that the residents couldn’t go out for the day’s businesses.

Egwu, who is also the youth president of Egeburu-Amaokwiri in the area, said the downpour lasted for over five hours before the thunderstruck and killed the deceased.

“My brother, what you heard is true; it is true, but two persons were killed and it occurred in Ngodo. It is true that thunderstruck two persons dead in Ngodo,”

he said.

The Police Spokesperson in the state, Loveth Odah, could not be reached for comments at the time of filing the report.
